Council 2024 - 2025
One of the best practices in Jyoti Nivas College is its electoral process.
Upholding the noblest ideals of the democratic institutions in our country, the
college reflects these values in the election of its Council members and thereafter
the class and sports representatives. The Council represents the entire student
body, championing the name and the mission of the College. The five office
bearers of the Council represent the very best of the moral, intellectual and
spiritual values of this institution.
The election process starts off, under the aegis of the Principal, with the reading
of the Constitution. Dates and eligibility criteria for filing in of nomination
forms are thereafter announced. Students with varying interests, passions and
pursuits file their nominations for the various posts.
Thereafter the scrutinizing committee, led by the chief electoral officer, the
Principal, make a detailed study of the candidates and their eligibility. The
scrutinizing committee, constituted by the chief co-ordinators, the controller of
examination and the physical education director, leave no stone unturned,
before making the final list of candidates for the 5 posts of the Council which
includes PRESIDENT, VICE-PRESIDENT, CULTURAL SECRETARY,
SPORTS SECRETARY and TREASURER. It must be mentioned here that
special discretionary authority for finalizing the list is reserved with the chief
electoral officer, the principal.
Electronic Voting Machines are hired from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to
conduct fair and transparent election. Results are announced on the same day.
Elected office bearers are taken for a leadership camp along with the elected
class representatives and sports representatives after which they are installed.
Office bearers are elected for one academic year and they work under the
guidance of three student Council advisors.
In an academic year, the student Council conducts various activities which
includes: Leadership camp- Camp is conducted to imbibe leadership qualities
among the elected representatives, Investiture Ceremony- Office bearers, class
and sports representatives and extended student Council are installed and badged.
In addition, events like Freshie Queen – Talent hunt for the fresher,
Rhapsody- Inter- class competitions for extracurricular activities, Teachers
Day – Cultural programs and games are conducted for the teachers,
Scintillation- annual Intercollegiate cultural festival are also conducted. On
Students' Day, the talents of our beloved students are acknowledged and prizes
are distributed to the winners of various competitions.
