REMEDIAL COACHING

The mission of the Remedial Class Committee of Jyoti Nivas College is to reach out to the poor and needy, under-privileged, and marginalized students in the college.
Objectives:

  • To improve the linguistic proficiencies of the students, classes on communicative skills are conducted regularly for those students who find it difficult to converse well in the English Language.
  • With the objective of making classes interesting and comprehensible to students, remedial classes are held in vernacular media. These remedial classes are conducted by the teachers and peers of the students, thus enhancing interpersonal and communication skills among the students. This activity helps in improving academic skills of the students.
  • Computer skills are an integral part of the personal skill sets a student needs to acquire before stepping out into her career. With this in mind, computer classes are held every year for non-computer science students. These classes equip the student for her prospective career, as well as in her daily curriculum.
  • Similarly non-mathematics students are also provided with short term courses on basic mathematics which increase their prospects of clearing aptitude tests as well as competitive examinations.

CAREER COUNSELLING

Jyoti Nivas College Autonomous with its academic excellence, also aims to provide career guidance and placements for for students all streams at the under-graduate and post-graduate level. It helps the students to take up challenging careers in their chosen fields by providing training and current information to assist the students in placements.
Sessions on career opportunities, coaching for banking and entrance exams like UPSC are also conducted.

SOFT SKILLS

Soft skill courses are organized to groom the students, and to enhance and refine the required skills among the graduates to make them employable. It also helps them to meet the changing demands of life, and the work environment. It enhances their interpersonal skills. It also focuses on communication and personality development, which enables them to set up their goals in life.

The Department of English holds a ‘Spoken English’ course to improve the linguistic proficiencies of the students.. The course module includes basic phonetics, Grammar, Writing and Communication skills.

BRIDGE COURSE

“Communication is skill that you can learn, it’s like riding a bicycle or typing, if you are willing to work at it, you can rapidly improve the quality of every part of your life”.

Jyoti Nivas College Autonomous conducts a certificate course in communication skills as a Bridge Course every year in the Language Lab of the Post-Graduate Centre. The main aim of course is to make students comfortable with their communication.

The following topics are covered during this course:
1. Written communication
2. Verbal communication
3. Non–verbal communication
4. Effective Email Writing
5. Interview skills.
6. Group discussion

LANGUAGE LAB

LANGUAGE LAB is a space for English language learning where students access audio or audiovisual materials. The language lab plays an important role in the language learning process. The lab is equipped with computers, and audiovisual accessories, where students can practice Listening Speaking Reading Writing (LSRW) skill. The centre has access to Oréll software that offers unlimited innovation and limitless value. Oréll is a solutions provider that has been rendering useful service in the field of education.

YOGA

Yoga is a way of living that aims towards a healthy mind in a healthy body. The art of practicing yoga helps to control an individual's mind, body and soul. It brings together physical and mental discipline to achieve a peaceful body and mind, and it helps manage stress and anxiety. It also helps in increasing flexibility, muscle strength and body tone.The aspirant feels rejuvenated and energized.

In this context Jyoti Nivas College Autonomous conducts a short term course in yoga. College celebrates International Yoga Day every year on 21st June. Around 50 students have enrolled in the Yoga course since 2014. The Yoga sessions are conducted in a well ventilated space with 14 windows and 557.48 square meters.

PERSONAL COUNSELLING

Counselling in JNC is a service area which provides a non-judgmental, confidential and supportive atmosphere to address emotional and psychological problems. The staff is professionally trained to offer individual counselling. The students may confront many challenges in the current competitive world and also be faced with broken relationships. To ease out their stress and to help them to change their perspective and to facilitate adjustment, the college has a counsellor.

A full time in-house counsellor is available to extend help to students who have problem in coping with stress, help students realize their strength and weaknesses and also help students examine various coping strategies.

Students may avail of the counselling services of their own volition, or through a teacher's reference. They are given an appointment and the counselling is conducted in a quiet and secluded room. Confidentiality is assured to the student.
