DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

Vision: Inculcates the skills of computing, critical thinking, reasoning and problem solving so as to apply these attributes in both professional and real life

Mission: Facilitates the learners to become competent users of mathematics and mathematical applications that lead them to be lifelong learners and productive members of the society

OBJECTIVES
To have a genuine comprehension of Mathematics as a logical basis for scientific thinking.
To study abstract mental concepts and interpret them in their applications in the real world of physical systems.
To apply mathematical concepts in the development of algorithm and syntax using FOSS (Free open software source) and Python in particular.

Mathematics, the queen of all sciences, plays a crucial role in understanding ideas and problems in real life, and leads the learner to become an expert at answering. Accordingly we inculcate critical thinking and logical reasoning to facilitate life-long learning as spelt out in the vision and mission of our department.
We take pride in saying that we have transformed our curriculum from being purely classroom based instruction to experiential learning in the laboratories providing a launch pad to every student to enter the IT industry.

Our teaching learning process includes the five components and each of them caters and addresses the unique needs of our students

In keeping with our vision and mission of collective progress, we encourage peer learning in the classrooms which inculcates mutual respect and responsible exercise of freedom among the students.

we have advanced the infrastructure to include two laboratories equipped with 85 systems having internet connectivity.  Our focus also moved from using two programming languages SCILAB and Maxima to a more advanced and industry oriented PYTHON programming which has been well received by students and parents. We are one of the few colleges to start practical in the state in 2016 and the first to use Python in 2018

One of the regular best practices is the annual Industrial field visit to places of importance Our students have been given exposure to the above places.

GOOGOL means 10^100 and the acronym for our mathematics activities.
We conduct our in-house departmental activities with the objectives of promoting leadership, confidence, team work and moral ethics, thus making them holistic human beings.

The Department of Mathematics at Jyoti Nivas College was established in the year 1966 with the introduction of Mathematics course in B.Sc. The department has competent faculty members who possess wide knowledge in pure & applied Mathematics. The department has come a long way, pioneering in the most modern educational programs such as SCILAB, MAXIMA and PYTHON. The average strength in each year is approximately 150 students, spread over 3 years.

The department focuses on the professional development of its students by providing them opportunities to choose their career in software industry and higher education in various field of Mathematics. The department is deeply involved in research and shares the knowledge and transfers it to the academic sectors through publications.
