During the first few years of academic career, my research interests revolved around History and Tourism with a particular focus on vocational training and development. After the completion of my Ph.D. thesis, I started to plan out new areas of interest that primarily bounded students on their views on professionalism and subsequently streamlined the level of their preparation to be part of an automated travel service sector, as well as the role of higher learning in Tourism and hospitality industry.
Eventually, my research focused on the following issues:

  • Geographical resources and Tourism,
  • Rural Tourism,
  • Destination Marketing,
  • Destination Planning and Policy-making,
  • Women's contributions in the field of Tourism, and
  • Community involvement for Sustaining Tourism Resources.

Title of the Research: “Development of Medical Tourism in Kerala with Special Reference to Women in Ayurveda
Name of the Supervisor: Dr. Suryakumari. A. (FMR Professor and Head, Department of Historical Studies & Tourism and Travel Management, Mother Teresa Women's University, Kodaikanal624101, Tamil Nadu)

Abstract:
The present research is an interdisciplinary subject focuses on the role and contributions women had made for the development of Ayurveda in Kerala from a historical perspective. To capture the overall scenario of the women's contribution to Ayurveda in Kerala, different sections of people in Ayurveda field were met with a specific set of questions. Women are playing a very good role in the promotion of Ayurveda. The reasons highlighted were better hospitality and management skills, more punctual, regularity, and also have more patience. As economically people are more stable, more freedom is given to women regarding higher learning, career and life itself, compared to earlier times. The number of women personnel are increasing in the field of Ayurveda. Even though, Medical Tourists, especially those who are coming for Ayurveda treatments, are facing certain problems like lack of proper infrastructure, environmental problems, especially pollution, changing climatic conditions, and so on, still, Medical Tourism offers a great opportunity for healthcare establishments in Kerala to fuel growth by tapping the potential of the international patient market. Also, well-coordinated efforts among the travel, hospitality, and healthcare trades are imperative for the sustainable growth of this business.
