The Department of Psychology in Jyoti Nivas College was established in 1967.From the time of its inception the department has been growing in leaps and bounds. The comprehensive post graduate degree programmes equips students to pursue higher studies, research and a vocation in the field of psychology. This process is facilitated by well qualified and experienced faculty members. The faculty and student strength have significantly increased over the years.
The Department of Psychology offers a two-year full-time M.Sc. program in Psychology which prepares students for applications of psychological knowledge in Clinic/Organizations/ Industries/ Research setups. This course is offered to those students who wish to achieve expertise in the field by providing scientific knowledge, research competencies and practical skills and thereby enable students to attain professional expertise.
The programme consists of 4 semesters over 2 years, semester I and II focus to orient students to the various psychological concepts, processes and subsequently provide a comprehensive understanding of the subject. In the semester Ill to IV the focus is on the specialization papers (Clinical psychology, Child psychology and Industrial psychology) and encourage students to engage in research, industry/institution internships, assessment, and skill development.
Eligibility:
• Minimum 50% aggregate in Bachelor's degree with psychology subject from a recognised board of India
• Students holding any other degree such as Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), BA Sociology, B.Sc. Home Science, B.A. Philosophy or B.Ed. with Psychology Papers.
• Candidate in the final year of their studies with 50% aggregate or above in all the semesters/years of undergraduate examination conducted

The Department of Psychology, Jyoti Nivas College Autonomous offers a two-year full-time M.Sc. Course in Wellbeing Counselling as an advanced course aimed at skill and competence building among students to become professional counsellors from a holistic and interdisciplinary perspective. Keeping this in mind the course curricula have been framed to provide theoretical as well as practical training in a wide range of counselling specialisations/areas that would help students to be eligible to be employed as counsellors and mental health professionals in the fields of education, hospital and counselling centres as well as in public and private organizations in the capacity of a counsellor, trainer and as a facilitator of mental health and wellness. Students would also be equipped to prepare and fare well in competitive examinations conducted by UGC, NTA, ICSSR and other State and Central Civil Services Boards.
Eligibility:
• Candidates who have passed the Undergraduate degree examination with 50% aggregate marks from any recognized University in India or abroad recognized by UGC / AIU are eligible to apply.
• Students appearing for their final degree examinations in March-June 2023 are also eligible to apply (Applicants who are in the last year of their studies should have secured 50% or above aggregate in all the Semesters I Years of Undergraduate Examinations conducted so far).
