DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY    OBJECTIVES    PROGRAMMES    SYLLABUS    FACULTY PROFILE

VISION
To initiate in students the wonder of life at the cellular and molecular level, and through this study develop a respect for life.

MISSION
To foster in students an understanding of biochemical reactions and processes in life forms and a scientific approach to the solving of health related issues, thereby being agents of change in their communities.

OBJECTIVES
Biochemistry is a broad course and has a lot of objectives in all fields of life sciences. The course can be a stepping stone to enter various fields of professional courses such as Medical, Veterinary, Agriculture.
The course will inspire and help the young minds to impart futuristic scientific and technical knowledge in the fields of Biochemistry.
Students can pursue their higher education and careers in Molecular Biology, Clinical Biochemistry, Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Science and Technology, Animal and Plant Biotechnology, Toxicology, Biomedical Sciences, Microbiology, Forensic Science, and other fields.
All our programmes are aligned with in the frame work and guidelines of National Education Policy 2020 (NEP).

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
To understand how the biomolecules interact with each other in our body.
To understand the structure of macromolecules and its involvement in molecular recognition and cell signalling
To develop an effective biochemical laboratory skill set in par with the instrumentation of modern biochemistry and to carry out team work investigations.
To inculcate the habit of self-learning and critical thinking among students.
To enhance the students’ ability to analyse and interpret laboratory data, and scientific writing skills.
To motivate greater number of students to take up post-graduation and to pursue independent research.

Department activities :

While chalk and board teaching is the primary mode of teaching, charts, models, videos, OHP and power point presentations are also used as teaching aids. Students are encouraged to develop the habit of self study and and use of the library for reference work.

The Department of Biochemistry organises seminars, conferences, guest lectures, workshops and demonstrations on the recent developments by inviting eminent scientists from various institutes.

Staff involved in research work have published research papers in various reputed journals and attended National and International conferences and presented papers. A few department members have been carrying out research projects awarded by University Grants Commission and KSTA-DST.

The Department of Biochemistry in association with the Department of Chemistry organises inter class and inter collegiate competitions like lecture, essay writing on current topics, quiz, crossword, poster presentation, model making etc. under the banner "Spatika".
