Independence Day - 2016


Independence Day, a day we don ourselves in the colour of patriotism and respect for our mother land, a day we are pulled back to our rich roots, filled with both the historic stories of brave legends and of incidents that shaped the history of this land.

12th of august 2016, Friday was a very special day to Jyoti Nivas College, celebrating its 174th , congregation, and also the closing ceremony of the golden jubilee, it's been 50 years since this prestigious college was set up, standing tall as a firm example of perseverance and unity.

The event began with the welcoming of the chief guest, Lt. Col Rohitash Kumar and Sr. Mary Marchrandus, lovingly also called the 'Mother Teresa of Bangalore'. Other guests included, Principal St. Joseph's convent school, Sagai Mary and Sr. Ancilla Mary, former principal of Providence College

Students presented t graceful dance forms around India. Team Kalarpana put together five Indian dance forms, ranging from Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Kathak to Mohiniyattam. As they moved to the tune full rhythms, they reminded us why to be an Indian was of great pride. The program continued with the rendition of a medley of patriotic songs by the NCC cadets of Jyoti Nivas college, they are not only determined and strong students but also very much talented. This was followed by the drama team - Bahuroopi, which presented a thought provoking play -mapping India's freedom. The Indian music teamTharang sang a multilingual song- Ek Sur, which captured the essence of unity in diversity. The last performance was the western dance team - swag squad, which was an energy packed and patriotic performance that truly caught the spirit of Independence Day.
