NSS REPORT 2016-17

NSS activities for the year 2016-17 started with a NSS member Sharath Prabhu attending a talk on Smart City Awareness held in Koramangala on 17/06/2016. This continued with a talk on Smart City Awareness held in college on 21/06/2016. The talk was presided by Dr. Muralidhar the Nodal Officer of BBMP and Mr. Yogishwar. The talk was on creating awareness on Smart City. Suggestions were given by NSS volunteers on how to make Bangalore a Smart City.

28/06/2016 - A Talk was attended by Mrs Anupama Bhat and Sharath Prabhu on "Shale Kade Nanna Nade" in Maharani Science College.

29/06/2016 - NSS Union Elections were conducted and Union members were elected.

11/07/2016 - A Workshop was conducted by U&I to NSS students at 1:45 pm. The volunteers were interviewed and selected to teach English, Social Science , Science and Math's at U&I centers.



19/07/2016 - NSS inauguration was held at Royal Heights. A session on Self Defence was conducted by Mr. AT Rajeev and Hera. Students were given tips to protect their belongings and themselves from anti social elements. The session went on for around 45 minutes, followed by investiture for NSS union members. This ceremony was conducted by Mrs Sara Samuel and Mrs. Lalitha Raman.



31/07/2016 - 15 NSS volunteers participated in a rally on awareness programme on Corneal Blindness and Eye Donation Programme conducted by Youth for Seva an NGO in Jayanagar Area. The campaign was a platform to sensitize citizens on "Corneal Blindness, Eye pledging and Signature for declaring Eye as a National asset". The students reached out to 5,287 people in and around Jayanagar. This in turn made an impact on 1,739 people to pledge their eyes for donation.



13/08/2016 - 43 NSS volunteers actively participated in a Clean Campaign Programme called "Beautiful Bangalore" and were a part of clean up drive at Lalbagh. This was in view of Flower Show being held at Lalbagh.



15/08/2016 - Our NSS volunteers are always active in participating in Independence day Parade held at Manickshaw grounds. This year 9 NSS volunteers participated in the Independence day Parade.



There was a Flash mob conducted on Corneal Blindness on 15/8/2016 by Snehadeep Trust for Blind. The event was to create an awareness about the eye donation and to make people realize the life without an eye. Flash mob was held at Jeevanahalli Indiranagar. A group of 100 students and volunteers participated in Flash Mob conducted for the first time in India. Volunteers danced with the blind students and also conducted games for the blind students at Saar Football Ground.



24/08/2016 - A workshop was conducted by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology organized by Bangalore University. NSS unit of Jyoti Nivas College participated in the workshop. The workshop was conducted at Central College. The volunteers participated in Poster Making Competition on Digital India. Our NSS unit received the 1st Place place in the poster making competition.



10/9/2016- Suicide Prevention Drive: 40 NSS volunteers participated in standathon on Suicide Prevention Drive being organized by Samudra Foundation. The volunteers actively participated in promoting the concept of suicide prevention and having a healthy body with healthy mind.



18/9/2016 Cultural event for specially abled children called as Spoorthi: Jyoti Nivas college NSS unit in association with Youth for Seva organized Spoorthi where 30 NSS volunteers participated in the event where they helped these specially abled children in conducting cultural event and serving food . During this occasion website of Youth for Seva was launced where NSS president Keerthi Ajith was called on stage for the launch.



18/012/2016- Chiguru: 45 volunteers ofNSS participated in Chiguru a cultural fest for Government School children . There were around 2500 students. NSS volunteers helped them in organising themselves for the fest, organised fun activities for them and served lunch.



From 6th December onwards NSS volunteers have been actively participating in Music Therapy sessions held at Kidwai. Every month on 2nd and 4th Tuesdays and Saturdays NSS volunteers sing songs for the inmates of Kidwai as a part of Music Therapy and distribute protein powder.





Kavya AG of final year B.Com a NSS volunteer was selected for Republic Day Parade held at Delhi. She marched at the Rajpath on 26/01/2017.



26/01/2017 - Republic Day parade: 4 NSS volunteers participated in Republic Day parade held at Bangalore.

18/01/2017 - Youth for Seva organised their annual day , and Jyoti Nivas College was awarded an award for Volunteering Partner.
